Elizabeth Jeannel’s Readers Rejoice!

After just over a year since the release of her sapphic Sleeping Beauty retelling, Waking Rory, Elizabeth Jeannel has finally announced she will be releasing her next novel, an ace spec romance based loosely on some of her own traumas.

When we asked what inspired the romcom Not Your Type, which releases in late January, Elizabeth had a few things to say.

“I haven’t read a lot of asexual fiction, and I think that really inspired me to get writing.” Out as ace herself, Elizabeth has spoken several times on her struggles in both understanding and explaining her sexuality.

Not Your Type made me cry several times as a writer.” Elizabeth said of the upcoming novel. “It’s happy. It’s sad. There are moments that infuriated me to write, but I felt were necessary.”

After taking a break from writing to start Hansen House, we are glad to see Elizabeth bringing new characters to life.

“Finding time to write has been a real challenge, but this story is so personal. I think as much as I wanted to get back to writing, there was something about this story that made writing it a need as well. These characters are basically me at different points in my life, in some ways, Parker is a lot like my wife. And when I really thought about it, writing this story really helped me solidify my journey with my own asexuality, my journey through therapy, and healing my own traumas.”

“I can’t say everyone will relate to the story, but anyone who has struggled with toxic relationships just might. At times I wondered if Not Your Type might be too niche, but maybe niche is a good thing.”

We look forward to sharing more news about Elizabeth and Not Your Type as the release date gets closer.
